Setting up the RaspberryPi
I’ve got a 1st gen RaspberryPi which I wasn’t sure would be beefy enough.
Surely running SimH with an old BSD or VAX OS won’t be straining the Pi much,
but I’d like to use is as well for other tasks like a media player or home automation in the future.
Also that model lacks wifi and I’d like to keep the number of cables to the PiDP11/70 to a minimum;
keeping just the power supply cord preferably.
So I ordered a Pi 3 model B+ to be future proof. Future proof to run a obsolete computer on it?
…I know, I’m a complex man…
Anyway, for the first try, I won’t deviate too much from the docs to reduce the risk of having
anything fail and waste time on checking the circuts when the root cause may be software.
So I installed Rasbian and SimH along a couple of OSes and checked it all started.
I’ll have to allow SimH to autostart when the Pi boots, but this can wait since I’ll probably be changin the host distro.
