Disable TR-069 on FritzBox 3490

Disable TR-069 on FritzBox 3490 I recently had to urgently replace my dead router with a FritzBox 3490 I had lying around. After the initial mandatory firmaware upgrade, password changes, shutting down of useless services and setting up the wireless networks I had one last closer look at the state of this kit. I noticed that a port was still open on the internet; one for TR-069 remote configuration.

GPG in a box

Using GPG inside a container Sometimes I use GPG to encrypt secrets used by applications. This has the advantage that most software have one way or another of accessing GPG so it also help sharing secrets between tools. For example sharing the same data file between Ansible and Terraform rather than using different methods. This also maintains one source of truth. The downside is of course setting up a keychain on each machine that needs access.

PiDP11/70: Switches

Switches assembly and closing the box So I finally found the time to complete this kit (or so I thought, more on that below) I ran the part 3 of BeigoOVision’s tutorial a few times to remind me of the steps and get it done properly. There is a lot of soldering on those switches and they say these are sensitive to over-heating; so I want to be as prepared as I can given my lower skills.

PiDP11/70: Blinkenlights

Blikenlights Yesterday I was missing test leads to conduct the following tests but I’ve received some today so it’s tim for blikenlights. This kit is not ideal because of the long leads so I had to use this crazy multiple hand I got earlier. It reminds me of King Ghidorah And voila! Blikenlights!!! It tried the rotary knobs and the LEDs cycled as expected too. Everything is awesome.

PiDP11/70: LED test

IT’S ALIVE!! I finished soldering all the many little components (LEDs, resistors, diodes and rotary switches) as described in https://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=lxjWOu_1Pb4 And I’ve got the Pi ready a (long) while ago). So I can start testing if my soldering skills are so bad I burnt anything or not. I don’t have any test leads to run all the tests but at least I should be able to check that the LED can turn on.

PiDP11/70: Soldering all small componants

Let’s finish all those small bits Resuming the build I’ve been away for a while on that trek and couldn’t bring the kit and tools along. Which is a shame because I would have loved to geek out at this in the afternoon/evening. It would have been a great mix of physical then intellectual efforts. :D More diodes, resistors and LEDs On a positive side, in the meantime I’ve found on the forum that someone has made a few awesome new build video tutorials.

TIPS: GPG/Gopass

How to add a new GPG public key to gopass? Because I don’t want to remember this… The new member generates a new public key (ex: newbee.pem) He/She shares the key somehow (public keyring, slack, jira etc). Sharing as a file is preferred because it will reduce the likelihood of a bad copy/paste. A team member needs to add the key to their keychain. gpg --import newbee.

Nepal Day 23

Flight to London (almost) We had a tight schedule to fly back to London. The first leg was from Kathmandu to Dubaï and the second longer one to London. There was only 2.5h in Dubaï to make the change and given our experience on the way in, it was a bit longe but not by much. Unfortunately, that first flight was delayed by 90 minutes, most of which we spent inside the plane on the tarmac waiting in line for take off.

Nepal Day 22

Visit Kathmandu I was the only one intersted in seeing some of the monuments of Kathmandu so I had a private guide basically. We saw two of the main attractions: The big stuppa and the Buddhist temple. This only took the morning so I had the afternoon off. I stayed by the swimming pool reading and drinking soda.

Nepal Day 21

Flight back to Kathmandu We got out early to catch a plane. The weather may not be so good so everyone would be rushing for few flights or else be stuck there for another day. It was a great trip but also a long one so I was eager to go back. We parted with the team and took the plane only with the main guide. Flying back to Kathmandu was okay.
